Post before sleeping

Hi there, I was kind of bummed about not understanding some of the crossover stuff with the new computer. Since Hannah wanted a computer of her own and I wasn't ready for that, we decided on the Mac as a family Christmas gift to ourselves in lieu of other gifts. Hannah will still get a few things when we return from our trip, but the trip itself and the new computer have taken the place of some things I would have bought just for the sake of giving her more under the tree that she didn't really need or want.

That bunny she is holding is just as adorable in real life. There's another one we call the "dust bunny". He's cream colored and tipped in soft gray. They were just little tiny handfuls of fluff this time last year.

Our weekend was just as insane as I thought it would be. Things went along smoothly though. Saturday morning she had her riding practice and rehearsed her ride for the show. She and Keith came home and I had everything staged and ready for the cheer competition. The girls did really well. They were the smallest group competing in their division (9 girls total). The next group from that was a group of 16. Usually they split into "small" gym (5 - 14 kids) and "large" gym (15 - 32), but since they were the only small group, they competed against the large groups. Larger groups have the advantage in a lot of ways. They have more bodies so they can do more pyramids and stunts which racks up more points. They also have the odds in their favor that they will have a larg selection of solid cheerleaders. They can strategically place the strongest ones in the most visible line to the judges. With small groups, there are so few to watch that mistakes are immediately evident. Despite that, they came in 3rd place. They scored 192.2, 2nd was 193.1, and 1st was 195.1, so it was pretty close. From what I heard also, the team did not have a single penalty or deduction.

After the cheer competition, Hannah went to a Christmas party one of the girls from her school was having for the basketball cheerleaders. Hannah said she had the "best gift" out of the gift swap. We had a $10 limit, so I bought a really girly friend frame and put a picture of the squad in and a cute gift set notecubes.

Went to bed eventually and then the next morning went to the horseback riding show where Hannah was a "Christmas cowgirl" for her ride. The saving moment was that the football cheerleaders were told one hour before we left the house that they would not be walking in the parade due to the rainy, cold weather. Too many of the girls have been sick, etc. and it was in the low 40s, high 30s with heavy rain starting and stopping. Since we didn't have to run there, we stayed for the whole horsey Christmas show and then went to dinner at Roadhouse.

I have been coordinating her homeroom's Christmas party and donations for a teacher gift, so that meant putting together an email list last night and getting things going. Did a bit more today and it seems like it will run smoothly now.

Alex seems to be doing better. If nothing else, it was helpful to discover that he LOVES Greenies cat treat style pill pockets. He would never eat the pill when I would try to hide it in his cat food, he would always eat around it. When I tried crushing it and mushing it around in the food, he wouldn't eat it at all. He has no problem with the the little pill treats though and I am sooooo grateful for that.

Got the family Christmas care package in the mail from my parents today. That was welcome. Gift cards for me so I can shop for some spring clothes when it warms up. None of my shorts fit anymore, but I'm going to pull the drawstring as tight as I can and take them to St. Maarten for vacation anyway because there's nothing out in the stores here now for warm weather. I know I am going to need to size down though by the time shorts weather comes around here again. Some of my shorts are 4 sizes higher than what I wear now.

Speaking of weight loss though, I managed to shed about 7 lbs while I was super duper under the weather. Of course, 4 of those pounds found me again as soon as I ate Melting Pot on Friday night!

I got the go-ahead from my boss to take on the writing position I was offered. It really isn't going to be a money maker, but I thought it would be worthwhile as a means of self-promotion and free advertising for my services.

I've finished 2 books this week, "Everlost" and "Big Stone Gap". Two very different styles of books, but easy fast reads. I need to pick out the next one from the stack that friends have loaned me. Neither of them are in a hurry to get them back, so I usually alternate between opposite sides of the spectrum from the book I just finished.

Keith is still feeling pretty lousy. He started coughing about an hour ago and had to drive to the pharmacy to get some NyQuil because he was miserable. This seems to have affected him the same way it did me. Sick, start to get better, feel worse. Today was the first day that I woke up and didn't feel completely congested and disgusting, but I still do have a very aggravating dry cough.

Well, need to head off. Work in the morning!
