Bacon

Okay, I knew things were going to go downhill quickly when I had a message waiting on my cell phone from the dermatologist's nurse before 8 am. I called back and asked her to call me after 12:30 as I had a client until then. Sure enough, she called at 1 and told me my biopsy showed a "basal cell carcinoma". I will be going in for surgery on 9/27 at 11 for them to numb the area under general anesthesia and to "excise" the surrounding area down to the fatty layer. So, to put a positive spin on things I'm thinking basal cell carcinoma, the main letters in that when I say it sounds like B C N, that spells bacon. He is cutting down to the fatty layer. Bacon is fatty. I shouldn't eat bacon, I shouldn't have bacon on my body nor do I wish to be fatty, please remove the bacon and no one gets hurt. Alright, so that has nothing to do with bacon, but I had to amuse myself.

Things went to hell in a handbasket though when I showed up to help out at Hannah's school and no one could tell me what to do. I sat and waited an hour since she had KidzArt today and I would have to get her at 3:15 anyway. When we arrived home, she had forgotten her math homework sheet and her science notebook with the assignment in it. In other words, she had 2 assignments (in addition to reading the book we've been reading, which is a given every night) and she didn't bring home either. I had to keep her out of gymnastics as a result. She had a little emotional breakdown, crying, heaving, sobbing. It's not just about missing gymnastics, it's about being penalized, it's about me being disappointed with her, it's just so many levels (not unlike bacon... sigh). She is in her room, no TV, working on sorting through the things she wants to keep and what she doesn't and trying to find a place for the things she loves. We are going to buy a cubby type organizer with canvas bins in it from Target to help her with the storage issue. At this stage, she really doesn't have anything. She has a bookshelf for her books, drawers for her clothes, and then the flat surfaces of her dresser and end table are cluttered and her floor is just piles all around. She has no place to put her toys. That's the main problem. We have recognized that. Even after getting rid of a ton of stuff, she has no place for the things she does play with, that she does need a spot for. Seeking viable solutions if anyone has any other ideas.

Off to go check on her progress.

Need to correct myself. I will NOT be undergoing this procedure under general anesthesia, I will be receiving only localized anesthesia. They will numb the area and then take care of any damaged skin to keep the cancerous cells from spreading. This is not an invasive type of cancer. It only destroys the skin.
