Long day yesterday

Hi all, yesterday we went to horseback riding, had just enough time to eat lunch, then it was on to Hannah's deputy black belt, test #2. She did well. We were there for 3 1/2 hours! She's going to have to go to a special class where they teach different self-defense for black belt that comes from Hapkido (which is kind of like judo with leverage, grappling, and throwing people). That's what her next test will be on. For whatever reason, it was scratched out on the list of classes she should attend. No worries, she will be going to camp at TKD the next two weeks because I will be finishing up work and I will be going to CKU! Hopefully she will get in some practice time then. I told her on Friday to work on her self-defense (which is what she was tested on yesterday) and she felt much more confident after that.

Yesterday, I had a HORRIBLE allergy day. It started at horseback riding and just made me miserable all day. I don't know if it's because of the horses, the dust there, etc. or if it is from being outdoors period. It is probably a combination of the two. I woke up with eye issues today. Hopefully that will get better. They have air quality ratings for downtown Charlotte every day, kind of like a weather report, and the air quality has been "orange", meaning "not good".

I am hoping the Homs had fun here. I felt bad not being able to do more with them, but it seems like they were able to relax. I know I have a hard time relaxing on vacations sometimes because there is so much to do, on the other hand, if I take a vacation at home day, I tend to notice everything that I SHOULD do and end up doing housework or a project instead of relaxing.

Today, I am going to be doing some housework. I need to clean up my loft. Did I mention that I passed on my yellow and blue sofa and loveseat to a family on "Freecycle"? The only time I would sit in the loft is when I would fold laundry. We are talking about eventually getting some bean bag sort of seats for Hannah's friends and putting some exercise equipment in the space instead of an actual sofa. The other possibility is to put the loveseat from our newer living room furniture into the loft. The living room is crowded.

When Hannah and I went to see Heather, she had cleaned her carpet with one of those machines that can be rented from the grocery store. I think I am going to give that a try. Hannah's room is especially scary. Lenny had chewed up a pink marker, I think it was a highlighter, and it is all over her carpet. Keith wants to have it done professionally, but I would rather try this first. I know that if someone else comes in and does it, we will have to move all of the furniture, etc, or else they will just go around it. If I have the machine, I can shift the furniture as I go.

We started watching Eragon on dvd last night, but the allergies and need for Benadryl overcame me and I got too sleepy to watch the end. The movie was really watered down from the book. I know many people hate hearing, "the book was so much better", but honestly, the movie edited it down a lot.

The final word on Hannah and cheerleading is that she is not going to do it. She went to the first practice for the team on Monday and began to understand the amount of time that would have to go into it. She would have team practice 2 hours on Monday, 2 hours of tumbling practice at another point in the week, and an hour of cheerleading skills practice on Thursdays. She would also have competitions on the weekends with mandatory practices on the Saturday before any of these competitions. It was daunting to me, but I was going to be able to work it out that she would be able to do it. Fortunately, it was something Hannah was able to see was going to be a little more than she cared to handle right now. She is still going to take an hour of tumbling each week, maybe even two hours, but nothing competitive. I told her that if she had a whole team depending on her, she was going to HAVE to stick with it. That made her nervous. Like her mama, she likes to maintain openness and options.

I can't believe that the school year is about to start again. Knowing that I will not be working as much this coming year makes me feel a little bit better about the time I will be able to spend with Hannah regarding school. Last year I felt like she was in a downward spiral and there was little I could do to stop it. I am planning on putting as much time into my internship up front so I can get it over with and we can start to get into a new routine here. I should be able to do it the hours Hannah is in school, then she will go to afterschool care with TKD once or twice a week and those will be my "late" nights. Three days of coming home after school instead of none is much better. If I need to find another full time job, at least then I won't have classes of my own, or internship hours to just bog me down.
