What have I done?

Here it is, my last day before starting back at the university. Panic has set in over how I will hold down things with the full time job and the part time hours at the community college. I am sure me being awake at this early hour has a little to do with the small lurch of dread I'm feeling, but also the ahhhhhh, I don't have to be anywhere first thing in the morning so I can do whatever I want right now, feeling as well.

My first day at the community college was good. Everyone was very kind and I had more "training" or overview of things than I have had in the past 7 years of employment, maybe more. I am not quite sure on all of the office logistics, but I am looking forward to my appointments and groups. I already have clients booking and individuals signing up for the group, so that's exciting. The two people I spent the most time with had a checklist that they went over while they talked to me. One of the secretaries put together a binder of everything that would be helpful and had a copy of the checklist in there. I'm wondering how my off-the-cuff self will do with such a structured group of co-workers. Structure, lists, and schedules are a good thing...

I don't think I mentioned, but Hannah did well at cheerleading camp and was invited to join the competitive squad where she does "cheernastics" (tumbling). Hannah desperately wants to do it, but it's such a time commitment. All of those extra practices for cheerleading, TKD, rock climbing, and then horseback riding on Saturday mornings, I just don't know how that would all work out. School needs to be priority this year. She only started with the tumbling after her birthday in March, but now it's just looking like her weekday evenings could be dominated by more activities. She's going to have to make some choices due to time limitations.

Things went just fine with her first black belt pre-test yesterday. This one tested her on all of her forms (poomsaes?) for white through black belt. She will have the next one on Aug. 11 and will be tested on all of her one step/self defense moves for white through black. She was invited to participate in an "instructor camp" which meets overnight in Wake Forest the following weekend which will make her a certified instructor. I'm only letting her go because I asked her and she was excited about it. With things the way they have been in relation to TKD, anything that gets her excited about it again is a plus.

She is pretty burned out on TKD and I would like to scale back her involvement there, but since I need the child care, I don't know what else to do. After school care is hard to come by here. They had after school pick ups for gymnastics and a score of other activities in Lakeland. Here, it's pretty much TKD, YMCA or the actual program that keeps the kids at the school. If she had the option for pick up twice a week for another activity, it would just be perfect.

That's enough of my ramblings about her schedule. It does have me stressed a little because she is so excited about cheerleading. She has taught her routine to all of her friends in the neighborhood. It's a high energy dance routine that suits her style more than all of the tap and ballet lessons she had ever taken. If we could get things to work out, I know she would enjoy it. I just don't know if joining competitively is the answer right now.

We went to the movies last night and let her friend spend the night. My line of thought on that one was selfish. I thought they would be up late and then would be tired this morning and would sleep late so I would be able to be lazy!

I didn't get to take a picture of our stacked stones. It rained Friday, pretty hard at times, and then yesterday the day just got away from me after horseback riding.

Since we moved in, Hannah has had a spot that she calls her "secret hideout". It's in the wooded area adjoining our backyard. It's difficult to get to, but is in full view of anyone who passes by on the way to the pool or out taking a walk. Recently, she has made more neighborhood friends and they have been playing there, making a clubhouse with branches, etc. One of the boys has been bringing two collapsible chairs that fold into a pouch, but he brings them back home when he leaves. Anyway, I've told them not to do anything that appears to be "permanent" (specifically no nailing or building) or they would get (us) in trouble by the homeowners's association. Sure enough, the next door neighbor that has always complained about my cats told one of Hannah's friends to clean up yesterday. I don't know what the full conversation was, I just know that Hannah wasn't there (she was at horseback riding) and she has followed my instructions about not dragging anything over there that couldn't be cleaned up when she was finished for the day. The neighbor heard me reminding Hannah about the "no mess" rule, so maybe he was just trying to keep other kids from making a mess. Regardless, I won't be surprised if we get another nasty homeowners' association letter that says we are in violation of a thousand covenants.

Well, maybe I will roll over now and go back to bed. I have to admit, I'm bummed that my summer is over.
