at her lesson on Saturday morning. She was taking Pete on her first trail ride and he was spooked by a deer. Her instructor said that Hannah did great, that most kids would have freaked out, but she attempted to rein him in and calm him down before the saddle actually came loose and she fell off. So, I guess she wasn't technically THROWN off, but it was still pretty scary for her.
I'm going to put up a separate post for the photos of our little getaway. We had a great time.
Today was my last day at my internship. It was really an amazing experience and it was something to just be excited about going each day. I've not been a morning person in quite some time, but most days I didn't start there until 9 and it gave me a chance to unwind in the mornings, enjoy the trip to drop off Hannah. They gave me a bouquet of roses and a card. Each of the social workers wrote something in it that actually meant something to me. It was more than "good luck" etc, it spoke of what I had done for specific clients of theirs and it really touched me. They told me jokingly that they don't do that for interns, they usually want to request payment at the end, but that they really enjoyed having me there and hope I can continue to work with them in some capacity.
On Friday I begin my brief stint of work with the community college before it too turns into 150 unpaid hours. I will be getting paid because the internship portion of my time there won't begin until the fall semester starts for me in mid-August. I said it's a little extra bonus that I will get this extra cash that I wasn't expecting because I would have gone in to get started on things paid or not. Monday I go back to the grind at the University where I work. I am more curious about things there than I am excited.
Keith and I made a headboard for our new bed today. I had seen it done before and wanted to do it myself. I am super pleased with the results and will post them later when I actually put the bedding back on the bed!
I finished reading HP7 on Monday and was disappointed with some of the results. I know Elissa said she loved it. It's not that I didn't love it, it's just that I felt a little let down in how things transpired. There were some deaths that occured that I was expecting, but they were very anti-climatic and seemed more senseless than part of the storyline. I will probably have to have my moment in a later blog entry when the therapist in me goes on a little rant about Snape, my favorite character. Snape is proof that there should be counselors in ALL schools, including magical wizarding academies. Anyone can fall victim to peer pressure and the need to fit in. If there had been an intervention, things would have been much better, lol. Keith actually said, when I told him that Bill and Elissa loved the book, "she probably doesn't have your weird attachment to Snape". That summed it up. I won't give anything away if anyone is still reading and I will leave things at that.
Outside the entrance to the Pisgah National Forest where we went on Monday, there was a scrapbook store! Holy cow, I went in and I shopped. I couldn't remember what photos I had just had delivered so I went lightly, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to peruse. I have been hanging back on my scrapbook spending just because I have so much stuff and I don't know what to make of it. I've found that I buy stuff and I forget about it, so it's better for me to wait until I have photos in hand and I can put together a little kit of what I want to work with.
Hannah was invited to join the competition cheer team from the place she has been doing "cheernastics". She is all gung ho for it, but I am leery just because of the time commitment that would mean once school is back in session. It starts at 6:30 and runs through 8:30, plus she would have cheernastics still, most likely. On the days she has TKD, she doesn't get picked up until 6. It would just make for a long day. I'm not even sure when she would eat dinner. If I was working part time, she could just skip TKD that day and would have all afternoon at home to do her homework, have some time to unwind, and eat.
She has been playing all afternoon in her "secret hideout" (which is clearly visible to all who pass by, it's just difficult to get to and involves crossing a stream by means of a downed tree limb). She and her friends took the hedge trimmers and cleared up some of the area. I hope they didn't do anything that will make the homeowners association upset. It's the wooded area that is adjacent to our house.
Photo of Hannah and I at dinner on Sunday night. I'm sunburned, but it's starting to go away now and I'm just peeling a little.
