Memorial Day Weekend

Hi all, this is our Memorial Day weekend, for my friends who are not American. It will be tomorrow so Keith, Hannah, and I have a three day weekend. Tomorrow is Memorial Day. When I was younger than Hannah, I used to twirl the baton and that meant marching in the parade on Memorial Day. I'm not sure where there is a parade tomorrow, if there is one at all.

I spent today filling the new bookshelves and organizing them as best I could. I realized that I have a lot of books and that I can't bear to part with most of them. There were a few I was ready to pass on, but I decided that if I could make them fit, I'd hang on to them until the next big purge day. Keith and I managed to get the computer armoire upstairs and he hooked up the old computer in it. I'm not sure what we will do with "Hannah's" computer and the little desk it sat on. There isn't much room for it right now, although she does like to use it to play "Zoo Tycoon".

Other than that, it was a quiet, but fulfilling day. We took Hannah to the pool after finishing up our projects. I am cleaning up because my mom will be here on Friday and I needed to wash the bedding in the guest room and whatnot. Tomorrow I plan on going through Hannah's summer clothes and moving them into her drawers where she can get to them easily. The winter clothes will get moved to the spare bedroom drawers until it gets cold again.

Yesterday we spent a good deal of time at a neighbor's house for their daughter's birthday. It was a nice get together. They have a lot of children in their bit of the neighborhood and it was good to sit and talk with other parents for a while.

I am so spoiled to be free of school. Even though I still will put off things I am not keen on doing, at least now I have time to do it. I always felt guilty for not spending every spare moment catching up on things with the house or the family before. Now I feel like I can put them off to do something fun because there is time to do the unpleasant stuff later. Someone was asking me at the party yesterday how it felt to be finished. Somehow it came around to them wondering how many hours I had put aside a week for school. The estimate came back as 16 actually spent for class (driving and lecture) and at least 15 for school work (less at times, a LOT more at others). 31 hours a week! At the last college I worked for, I only worked 30 hours. No wonder I feel like I have all the time in the world now. I will be starting my practicum class this coming Wednesday, but I don't think that the whole ordeal will be as stressful as regular classes.

Another small luxury is that we leave at 4 from work once graduation has passed. With hardly any traffic through the office and few students on campus it's pretty relaxed there as well.

Well, back to this laundry here. Hope everyone has a nice holiday tomorrow. We are going to spend a quiet day at home.
