So, other than the snow, not much has been happening outside of work or school for me. With the way my classes had been going administratively, I felt like I was just complaining about the same thing over and over again. I had my transcript audited on Monday night and I'm down to just 2 more classes in March. The two happen to be in a sequence, but I'm going to try to take them simultaneously anyway. Honestly, I just want to finish because the process has become painful after the wasted drives down, the cancelled classes, the indifferent attitude of much of the administrative staff... I am ready to move on to the next phase. What's crummy is that the two more classes that I need were not on my audit sheet that I've been following. They were pulled out of the air.
Now that I've actually attended two classes, they are pretty interesting and I am enjoying them.
As far as work goes, I am SOOO busy. Yesterday I didn't get out of there until almost 4 (I leave at 2:30 on the days I have class because my drive is 2 hours). We are preparing for our "Senior Networking Dinner". I have to phone in the final head count for the event to the catering staff. We are reserving dinner for 110. The busier I am, the more involved I am, the more I have going on and the more people involved... I am content. Our career fair is fast approaching on the 15th... I am doing workshops, tons of one on one student appointments... I'm just pretty happy with work right now. The only thing that could make it better is if it was closer to my house, I could go in sweat pants or pjs, and didn't have to start until lunch time. I am still NOT a morning person, lol.
Hannah dashed off to "L's" house to play on his swing set (in the snow - he has a fort thing on it and they break off the ice that forms on it. I just called to check on her and his grandmother said they were in now, drying off, because they went down the slide. I sent over some cocoa and told her she could send them this way when she wanted a break.
I'm looking forward to the Homs' visit in a few weeks! Even though my house will be in shambles from neglect, it will be a nice way to close up a period of craziness at work!
OH! The snow started again! I mean, I know I grew up with it, but it just amazes me. I remember going to bed and waking up the next morning with everything just covered in snow, there was something magical about that. It usually came at night. I think that's why I just get excited when I see it falling and it's daylight. Of course, today the low is 69 in Lakeland, FL and the high is 80. Coming from that weather to this makes the snow a little unique all over again as well. The high is 35, the low 32, here today.
We haven't started Hannah in the Learning Rx program yet. I am still trying to get more information about outcomes, procedures, effectiveness, etc. before we invest that kind of time and money. I mean, I can see the logic in the method, but I am wondering how effective it is long term. On her report card, she received 95 in science, 96 in social studies, an 85 in reading, but a 75 in math, which is considered a D. I'm not overly concerned with the grade, but I am concerned with the implications if she isn't catching on now, how that will effect her ability to pick up more advanced material that will build from these foundations.
I am going to be talking to my guidance counseling in the schools professor tonight on the phone about her scores on the Learning Rx test, etc. to see what her thoughts are. She told me last night to call her tonight at home, so I feel good about that. Just getting an opinion outside of Hannah's school, outside of the Learning Rx group where they (obviously) want to sell their services, outside of Keith and myself who can't look at it objectively or as informed as someone in the education system...
Other than that, Hannah is continuing in tae kwon do after school every day. She is going to be participating in a tournament on 2/24. She is, surprisingly, saying she's growing bored with horseback riding. Art on Thursday afternoons remains her favorite activity by far.
She brought home a flyer from school about soccer leagues and said she would like to try that. The time commitment for sports teams is so intense. They practice twice a week and then have one game per week. With TKD, M-F, I don't know how we could do that, have dinner, do homework and then rush her to soccer. It's not an option to skip TKD. We need to continue that for the afterschool care factor. Even if I wasn't working, I think she's getting way too much homework and pressure from school to be involved in everything like she used to be. Of course, she also wants to take a class in tumbling/cheerleading. We shied away from that because of her already tight, overcommitted schedule and that would only be once a week on Friday nights. Soccer. Hmmm...
