Well, I needed to do it. One of the very first posts when I started this blog last year was "Stuck in BMW hell". That wasn't the start of the problems with the car though. None of the problems were HUGE, but they were problems and the less than cooperative service department made every visit completely miserable. At least the dealership in Lakeland had a nice waiting area with good snacks :). The dealership here is out of both my way to work and Keith's making it even less convenient to bring the car in. What's more is that I had 10k miles left on my warranty and with the drive to SC, those were going to be sucked up quickly. The cost of repairs and maintenance on the car would have been ridiculous without the warranty.
So, my new car is a Nissan Altima. I traded both the BMW and the Miata for it. I'm not in love with it, but it is practical and will be good for getting back and forth to school and taking Hannah around for her stuff. It's a nice car though. It has leather heated seats, a sunroof and a Bose stereo. It's "polished pewter" with a light tan interior. The back seat has lots of leg room which was what really did it for me. It actually has a lot of the same features the BMW had, but I get to start fresh with a new car and a new warranty until I am at least finished driving to SC this May. Once I'm making the big bucks, I will get something fancy, lol. Honestly, I've had it with these profile cars that are all about being snooty.
I have to take the Miata to the dealership in the morning and kiss it goodbye. That's going to be a bittersweet parting of ways. I realized on Wednesday though that I didn't enjoy driving it as much as I used to. There is a lot of road noise, I was uncomfortable on the long drive, and I am constantly being overlooked by trucks on the road. It was time. I know there is a two seater convertible in my future. It will probably happen when I drop Hannah off for college and am suffering from empty nest syndrome.
I think I made the right decision. Maybe it wasn't THE car for me, but the BMW needed to go while it was still under warranty and the Miata needed to go before another mechanical problem or something expensive needed to be replaced just due to sheer age.
On that note, I'm heading to bed. Good night.
