Vague News

The oncologist's office called today and left a message on our machine that they had the results of Keith's scan, but they couldn't leave that on the phone. She said that it was a fairly good report. I called back and left her a message now to call me back. Since she's a nurse, she's probably not going to get back with me any time soon. She said on the recording that Dr. Boyd would talk with him about it at his appointment next month.

Fairly good. That word, fairly, is throwing me off. Hopeful interpretation of "fairly good" is that they see a few masses on the CT scan, but they are all likely scar tissue from his treatment and not cancerous masses. Unlike a PET scan, CT scans do not show cancerous activity, just "masses". In a PET scan, any cancerous cells are illuminated. Plain old masses like scar tissue, don't light up.

Keith was told by Dr. Trindade that his CT scans would always show lesions because of scarring. If his PET doesn't light up, he's still in remission. If there is any question, hopefully this will prompt a PET scan in the near future to rule out any uncertainty.

I will let you know when I hear something more.
