Back from our house hunting trip in Memphis. We headed to Beale Street on Sunday night. In my black literature class, I did my research paper on James Baldwin and wanted to see "If Beale Street Could Talk". It reminded me a lot of Ybor City, but more tacky. We felt apprehensive when the car park attendant told us to have a safe night, instead of "have fun" or something like that. Our waiter at the Hard Rock Cafe, pieced in several places, told us that he was a single dad raising his son. He told us Memphis is not a good place to raise a child. Too much violence... We stopped to buy a bottle of water and the lady in the convenience store asked Keith if we were visiting and then warned him not to move to Memphis.
But now we're back and we have some decisions to make. Our realtor, who I've been e-mailing and talking to for over a month, told us that we wanted to stay out of the city of Memphis and any area that may be annexed, because of the taxes and the problems with the schools, etc. He said we had nothing to worry about in the "county" area.
We ended up REALLY liking the towns of Collierville and Germantown. They were family friendly and I could see us living there. There was a house that was beyond perfect... there was a school right in the subdivision for the subdivision, nice yard, gorgeous BIG house... just perfect. In the end though, the moving package we thought Keith was getting at the company was actually for the NEXT salary grade and higher. That levelled the playing field again and we just see more to our benefit in Charlotte. Keith's on his way to take his drug test this afternoon in Tampa at the facility there.
Hannah's STILL asleep. We realized we needed to let her recoop this AM, but I need to get her up for school now. I'm ready to head to work.

Oh wow. People living there telling you not to live there. That creeps me out. It's a shame though. At the very least, you got a weekend away and saw another part of the country. That's always a good thing.
Glad you are home. I missed you!
